World-class machining

Impressive quality through advanced process management

Mechanical machining of castings is done at all the Wolf Group sites. The highly automated machining division at Regensburg Druckgusswerk is distinguished in particular by the use of modern multi-spindle units, which allows for a very high degree of machining depth. This means CNC milling components of high-volume projects as well as of smaller batches with high complexity can be handled equally well. Rotationally symmetrical components are also manufactured in Regensburg on fully interlinked plant. At the Hungarian Prec-Cast site blanks are machined on more than 40 CNC machines.

Standard machines in different sizes and types as well as multi-spindle units allow for very high flexibility and machining depth. Various product-specific special purpose machines and rotary transfer machines also ensure extremely fast and cost-efficient machining of components in very high quantities.

Segment production was introduced to further increase productivity and quality for selected product families. For this purpose, the die-casting cell, surface finishing process, mechanical machining and logistics are directly coupled. A specialised team is responsible for the entire process and quality management of the product family and so develop completely new component awareness. To meet the increased demands of the market and further increase the effectiveness of the Eastern European machining division, a specific component group was relocated to a new plant in Slovakia in early 2011. The plant manufactures high-volume component groups on modern machining centres using the latest technological manufacturing insights and optimal material flow conditions.

The modern and manageable plant doubles up as training centre for employees from the Hungarian site. At the Chinese plant, modern, European and Asian CNC milling centres and product-specific special purpose machines are used for mechanical machining. Here, sophisticated material flow through all processing steps also allows for optimal production at consistently reliable quality. Initial sampling and series measurements of the entire Group using modern 3D coordinate measuring machines are just as standard practice as the process testing by means of CAQ systems.
